Who doesn't love a bit of Mike Carroll footage eh?
Revered by all and rightfully considered one of the all-time GOATs, Girl Skateboards co-founder and 1994 Thrasher SOTY is as "skate royalty" as they come, so any new clips (even if the "new" clips were filmed on this day* 13 years ago) are welcome indeed. Throw a Rick Howard cameo into the mix for old time's sake? Well now you've a recipe for skateboarding greatness, which this piece graciously delivers.
One of the best to ever do it, Mike a.k.a Furrycalamari cruises his adoptive home town, stomping Mach ten nollie flips and lines the current generation of pro's would pay Instagram to promote. Honestly, the reality of watching Mike Carroll cruising, remebering just how good he was even whilst messing about, leaves us sad knowing we're never gonna get a full part from him again. Sure, there are a million and one other skaters out there busting balls and producing the goods but none of them are Mike Carroll and it's Mike Carroll we want to see!
Ok, maybe that's a tad petulant but Mike really was the absolute ruler and this footage has brought childhood memories of one of skateboarding's great heroes flooding back. We guess going down the rabbit hole of his thirty year back catalogue is keeping us entertained tonight!
