Patagonia- Impact
Oct 2023 by Route One
Throughout their 50-year history, Patagonia have sought to demonstrate to the rest of the business world that doing the right thing makes for good and profitable business. The global apparel industry is responsible for around 6.7% of global greenhouse gas emissions, something the self-titled ‘Responsible Company’ has taken a radical approach towards. Whilst it intends to be Net Zero by 2040, Patagonia is also looking to change the wider apparel industry through innovative, open-source material changes such as Regenerative Organic Cotton, and greater garment worker welfare through its partnership with Fair Trade. In AW23, 91% of Patagonia’s fabric will contain preferred materials meaning they’re either recycled, circular, or regenerative. In addition, over 90% of the product line will be Fair Trade Certified Sewn, 92% will exclude PFAS chemistry, and all their gear is covered by the Iron Clad Guarantee meaning free repairs for your Patagonia item, irrespective of how you did it!
Since 1985 Patagonia have committed to supporting grassroots activism through 1% for the Planet and contribute 100% of profits to funding global climate solutions through the Holdfast Collective.
