New Balance- Impact
Oct 2023 by Route One
New Balance are keen to keep developing their product sustainability and to evolve their environmentally preferred materials. They are also exploring ways to reduce the amounts of materials they use, helping to enable circularity through repair and recycling.
New Balance currently have their ‘Green Leaf Standard’ which indicates that the material used on footwear and apparel is environmentally preferred. This means that for example, for apparel, at least 50% of the materials are environmentally preferred. New Balances’ environmentally preferred materials include recycled leather, organic cotton, responsibly sourced leather along with Tencel and Spinnex. Spinnex is New Balance’s materials that contain a minimum of 30% surplus textile waste which can be of any composition (polyester or cotton for example). They are currently on track to source 100% renewable electricity for own operations and to eliminate use and waste of hazardous chemicals by 2025 .
