Romford Skate Park Retrospective

Dec 2014 by Route One

In October of this year Romford Skate park in Essex, first opened in 1978, was given grade two listed status by English Heritage.

Having been skated by numerous generations over the years and having seen many a legendary visiting pro session from the likes of Cardiel, Rodney Mullen, The Gonz and Lance Mountain amongst others, it is fitting that it was Romford that was the first skate facility on UK soil to receive such an accolade.

To celebrate this Sidewalk Magazine’s all round nice guy and punk rock aficionado Jono Coote has delved into the archives to write a cracking little ode to the park and the influence and effect it has had on uk skate culture over the past 36 years,

Click the image of Lance below and then hit up that fabled concrete next time you’re in that neck of the woods – If tell your family you’re off to check out an English Heritage site we’re pretty sure they’ll be well stoked!
