Make Life Skate Life: The Pro Team goes to Laos!
Route One’s partner charity Make Life Skate Life are building the first ever public skatepark in Laos!
The 360m² park, under construction in the country’s capital Vientiane, will provide a safe and accessible space for the skate community that has been growing in the city over the past 10-years. Laos is the last remaining country in Southeast Asia without a public skatepark… until this weekend. The park is set to open on the 4th of February 2023.
Make Life Skate Life is a non-governmental organisation deeply rooted in skate culture, whose aim is to make skateboarding accessible for all. The charity works alongside grassroots skate communities, connecting local groups to the resources, skills, workers and volunteers needed to build community skateparks and set up free of charge, inclusive skate schools.
Since its first project back in 2013, Make Life Skate Life has facilitated the construction of 12 skateparks, bringing the benefits of skateboarding to thousands in communities lacking skate-related resources around the world.
Find out more about Make Life Skate Life here.
At Route One, we’ve helped to fund the construction of the Laos park and have sent out our Skate Team to help with the build, with a few of bags of skate kit to get the local community rolling. Follow us on Instagram @route_one for content from our Pro Team in Laos!
Back in 2021, to fundraise for the Laos build, Tom Drury, a 28-year-old from rural Australia, decided to skate 4000km from Melbourne to Cairns (the entire length of the Australian East Coast). To put that in perspective, the distance from London to Moscow is only 3000km! You can find out about Tom’s incredible trip and donate to his fundraiser here.
